Algae BioFuel Plant Announces Production

Algae Biodiesel production

There has been a slew of media surrounding the production of BioFuel from algae lately, and we’ve been excited about the the probability of seeing it happen. Turns out, that probability is a reality!

Petrosun just announced that tomorrow, April 1st (no, this isn’t an April Fool’s prank), their algae-to-biofuel facility in Rio Hondo, Texas will be functioning. They are using the algae pond model which, while isn’t as effective as other options, is expected to produce some 4.4 million gallons of algal oil via 1,100 acres of saltwater ponds.

To report even more good news, PetroSun is also planning algae farms and algal oil extraction plants for several US states and Mexico, Brazil and Australia in 2008.

Green Fuel Technologies has also announced they have begun construction on their algae plant as well.
