Zero Emission Vehicles = $142 Billion In Health Care Costs Savings?

ZEVs Could Save Us More Than Money

A study conducted by the American Lung Association of California and TIAX LLC, a consulting firm specializing in alternative fuels and transportation research is suggesting that in the state of California alone, zero emission vehicles (ZEVs) could save $142 billion in health care costs by the year 2030.

Good news, but is this seriously just now being thought of? We’re all aware that our cars spew out some noxious fumes, but why hasn’t anyone put a number on how it affects our health until now? The important fact is that now we have a monetized figure, and with the recent changes in fuel efficiency and emissions standards coupled with the less than golden economy, that figure can serve as powerful tool in convincing CARB not to lower their standards.
