Magazine Subscriptions, A Dilemma

Good Magazine

I had a dilemma this morning over my bowl of oatmeal and blueberries. I was reading GOOD Magazine and thought to myself, “I really should get a subscription. No, I have to get a subscription, I owe it to myself and Swye.” Immediately I was consumed with my trained reaction of “You don’t really need this it’s just more to consume, besides, think of the paper production.” It’s then that it hit me: We’re thinking about this wrong.

True, our culture consumes far too much with rampant over-packaging, but our culture is starting to shift. With increased demand for natural and green products comes increased supply, something we can all aplaud but I argue this: we need to put out money where our ideas and mouths are, even if it means consuming more… for now. We can act with out wallets and greenbacks to really make a difference in how companies view all-natural products and the demand for them.

Hopefully packaging and consumption will reduce globally to make a big difference. Until that happens, we need to spend more money where more money is needed, natural and socially responsible companies. In this case, Good Magazine.
