Crackery Tableware

Per the old Japanese tradition of filling cracks in pottery with gold, Netherlands-based designer Joana Meroz is re-glazing cracks and chips in dishes and transforming them to what she calls ‘Crackery Tableware.’ She is doing so stylishly by utilizing gold luster and painting the ends of the crack with flowers and roots.
Most of us have experienced the undesirable cracked family china, antique, or random Crate and Barrel dish; but how many of us have thought of fixing and re-using that dish? In a time where conspicuous consumption is increasingly becoming a major a faux pas, we could take a hint from Ms. Meroz and try fixing our own stuff (certainly doesn’t have to be with gold!).
It looks like there is an opening for a business where folks can send in their chipped ‘wares and get a fix-up job. Offers could range from a quick and concise plaster to gold luster flowers depending on the dishware owner’s desired spending.
