Nokia Creates Phone From Garbage

Last week we posted about The Secret Life of Cellphones, a video profiling what happens to our electronics we throw out, and now Nokia has made a phone that we can all feel better about. The “Remade” concept phone is made almost entirely of aluminum cans, plastic bottles and old car tires and also use environmentally-friendly printed electronics and display graphics that save electricity.

While this is just a prototype concept phone, it’s really cool to see a company the size of Nokia working to reduce the impact of their products on the earth and create something more environmentally friendly. Even if this phone doesn’t get produced it still serves to prove their goal with this phone: we don’t need virgin materials to make our everyday products. Watch the video above to see the basics and design of the phone.

Nokia has also launched the 3110 Evolve, a phone with “bio-covers” made with more than 50% renewable material and packaged in 60% post-consumer content. The charger even uses 94% less energy than the Energy Star requirements. If this a potential new direction for Nokia’s products, than carry on, phone giant, carry on.
