Can You Go Without Lights For 1 Hour? March 29th, Global Earth Hour
Can you live without lights for 1 hour and rely on candles? Do you know what a difference one hour would make? What if millions of people did it?
That’s exactly what happened on March 31st last year in Sydney, Australia when 2.2 million people and 2100 Sydney businesses turned off their lights for one hour. That small individual action reduced energy consumption by 10.2%. That’s the equivalent of taking 48,000 cars off the road for an hour. 48, 000, that’s huge! Just imagine if this idea went beyond just Sydney!
That’s exactly the idea for Earth Hour 2008. Organized by the World Wildlife Fund International, this year the idea is going global. With countries already participating in the event including Aalborg, Adelaide, Brisbane, Chicago, Copenhagen, Melbourne, Toronto and Tel Aviv, there are already so many people involved it should prove to be huge. Why not get your city involved? Sign up and get involved and let everyone you can know about it.
