Back to Pangea

While on one of my Whole Foods trips the other day, I went to the whole body section for some soap and toothpaste. Picking up soap is always an ordeal for me; I’ll stand in front of the shelf reading labels of ingredients trying to decide which one to use next. This time, however, I was drawn to Pangea Organics’s bar soap, a brand I had heard many good things about but had never really tried before. I ended up picking up two bars of soap that not only smelled nice, but also boasting top notch natural ingredients after reading the ingredient list. The packaging also caught my eye, as well. Instead of being wrapped in plastic or just sitting on the shelf with just a paper label around it, the bars of soap are nestled into a box that is almost identical in materials as a paper egg carton. I would soon learn that it wasn’t just an ordinary probably-made-of-recycled-materials box.
Much to my surprise, after reading the back of the label, this box is not only made of 100% recycled post-consumer materials, but it also contained organic seeds imbedded in the box’s material. My box contained amaranth seeds, and I have it set aside for when the cold of winter ends and spring begins. The idea is Pangea Organics’s new “Nature Meet Nurture” project, where they will be utilizing a “Zero-Waste process” that will not only help the environment by using recycled materials, but also give back to it by encouraging people to help decrease the amount of carbon in our air supply by following the simple directions on the soap’s label and planting the box. Their goal is to balance the amount of carbon they use by 100% by planting trees all over the world.
The products themselves are also environmentally friendly: they start biodegrading in 48 hours where other products that contain harsh and harmful chemicals can take up to 200 years to break down. Your skin will also thank you for nourishing it by using a soap that contains nothing but the pure ingredients on the label.
It’s always refreshing to find a company that practices what it preaches.
