Take A Stand, Peeing

Stand Up For the Earth

Every time I’ve used a public urinal, I’m appalled at the amount of water is used in one visit, not to mention multiplied by the the number of people that day times the number of bathrooms in the US. It’s enough to make my eco-brain spin and is enough to convince me to not flush.

Apparently the people at Zurn have thought the same thing and created a line of EcoVantage Pint Urinals which apparently only use 1 pint of water per flush. They also offer several waterless urinals as well.

These ideas aren’t really new and you can see them in several cities throughout the US and in wide use in many countries such as Ireland, where I saw many of them in the pubs on my last visit, but they aren’t widely adopted here in the US in places with the most bathroom brakes, like many of the bars and office buildings. With apparent savings of up to 30,000 gallons of water per urinal per year, let’s hope we start seeing more of these around.
